i will defend improvised storytelling till the day i fucking die i think stories told by people under pressure to do it fast, stories told in collaboration…. that shits gorgeous and ALIVE. have you ever gone to a writing workshop and someone writes the rawest shit in the entire world during a ten minute free write? playing dnd and some dialogue is so moving it makes you wonder how it came from your dumbass friends? got really into one of those ‘one sentence at a time’ campfire story games and ended up making something— totally unrecorded, lost except to the people who were there— that should have been in the fucking moma?

people are full to the BRIM with stories and honing that storytelling into a specific practice (ex. writing) is for sure a learned skill that takes tons of practice to do effectively but…… it’s there. it’s there and anyone can tap into it if they’re given opportunity and an audience to say it to.

look, the point of telling stories is to connect with other people. and all we’ve ever done throughout human history is connect connect connect so is it any wonder when you put a human being in front of an outlet and you say ‘tell me a story’, no one stays silent?

Move in together. Problem solved

broadwaytheanimatedseries

That witch hasn’t said a single word but im calling it now - Himbo.

Also yes move in together, platonically or romantically doesn’t matter, I’d watch the hell out of that wlw mlm solidarity fantasy sitcom anyway.

susiephone

A fair maiden knocks on the goth lady’s door and says she’s here to find love.

The goth sighs, points across the road and says, “Witch is over there. He doesn’t do love potions because consent but he might be able to make you prettier, although 90% of the time it turns out the spell didn’t do anything but make you more confident.”

The maiden blushes and sheepishly explains that she knows he’s the witch, she just talked to him and he sent her over here.

Goth looks over her shoulder to see the himbo witch standing outside his house giving her a grin and a double thumbs up.

This is FASCINATING and describes something I couldn’t put my finger on!!

A major difference things like this don’t take into account is animation.

When the original pokemon were designed, they were just static six-bit colorless sprites. They had no clue what was to come in the next 20 years.

Over the next twenty years, pokemon has become insanely popular. Disney level popular. Each game has increased the animation until each one now has a fully animated CG model, rendered in far more detail than the first gen Gameboy sprites could ever dream of. It’s had thousands of cartoon episodes and around two dozen movies.

The newer designs are-

  1. Much easier to animate, and more importantly,
  2. Significantly easier for children to draw.

And that’s ultimately what this franchise boils down to: it has to be accessible to children.

knight-nick

I think that’s a really interesting point because as a child I always thought it’s really really hard to draw Pokemon! So I honestly never did.

does anybody else remember when the h*nger g*mes movies were big and there was that really dark, haunting song in them about a man getting lynched and people watching it because that kind of violence was so normalized in their world (that “are you are you coming to the tree, they strung up a man, they say he murdered three” song), and then in real life they made like a club version of that song to play on the radio

angremlin

There is literally nothing funnier than the marketing of teh Hunger Games franchise because they couldn’t figure out what to do other than perfectly imitate the villains of the story
